Laredo, Texas – Tostadas have become the go-to taco toppings around the US, but they’re also a staple of Mexican food.
And while they’re good, they’re still a little expensive.
What’s better, it’s so easy to make and pack your own taco sauce that even your friends can enjoy them!
We spoke to our friends at Taco Cucamonga, a chain of taco joints in Laredos taco capital, to find out how to make your own Tostada sauce at your own home.
Tostados are made from a variety of meats and vegetables, but most people start with beef, chicken, pork or fish.
They can be made with lamb, pork, beef, turkey, veal or chicken, and include cheese and salsa.
You can add your own toppings too, like avocado, pico de gallo or guacamole.
Here’s how to prepare a taco in your own kitchen: 1.
Get a box of tortillas.
If you can find them, try to buy the tortillas at Costco, Walmart or Trader Joe’s.
You’ll be glad you did, because they’re a great source of nutrition and fiber.
2.
Put them in the fridge overnight.
It’s best to use frozen tortillas because they’ll keep longer.
The longer they stay frozen, the better the taste and texture.
3.
Cook them in your oven.
This will give you more time to work with your tortillas, and it will also keep them from turning to mush.
4.
Remove them from the oven.
Put the tortilla halves on a baking sheet and cook them until they’re golden brown.
5.
Add the taco sauce.
Put it in the bowl of your blender, and blend until it’s a smooth paste.
6.
Mix it up in your mouth.
Try to make a smooth mixture with each bite.
7.
Serve it.
Serve the taco mixture with guac (or salsa) or a tortilla chips, and you’ll have your own little taco heaven.
